It's a new year, a new climbing season and a new Everest. Join Matt and his team of Willie Benegas and Jim Walkley (both veterans of last year's Triple 8 Expedition) as they aim for Mt. Everest, followed by a summit of Lhotse and an attempt to ski the Lhotse Couloir.

The First Ten Days
After an intense week of taking finals, packing and working to grab any and all training opportunities, Matt and Willie departed from Denver to head through Dubai to Kathmandu.
They arrived safe and sound in Kathmandu, grabbed a helicopter and flew to Namche Bazaar for a few days of acclimating to the 12,303' altitude. After a couple of overnights and gear organization, Matt, Willie and Jim left for Pangboche for blessings and headbutts, a Lama Geshe tradition. They will stay in Pheriche at 14,600' for the nexst two days.
The pictures below tell the whole story. Click to enlarge and view captions.
The team also posted a couple of videos to Matt's Facebook page and Benegas Brother's blog.
Video 1: We have liftoff from Kathmandu. Team Willie and Matt are on their way to Lukla to refuel and then a flight to Namche, weather permitting.
Video 2: It's a beautiful day in the Khumbu. First views of Everest today.
